Hume Fogg: The Party Bus Distraction

Introduction

A couple of weeks ago, while doing research for another one of my podcast topics, I came across an article about Hume Fogg and the party bus noise.  I saw students and adult, outside, with their signs, and I had to reach out to one my babies that I knew went to that school.  I asked them were they out there too, they told me no but they did sign the petition because it was very distracting.

The Issue

The issue is the party busses that are cruising around downtown all hours of the day apparently.  We all have seen them, heard them or been on one at some point.  Though they are fun, consideration is not being thought of regarding the buildings they are passing and the noise they are making at certain times of day.  When I used to work downtown, you saw them pass by and the people were having the time of their lives.  Fast-forward to now, they are so many of them and they are traveling everywhere for hours and sometimes lingering in one spot longer than necessary.

So, I asked my baby to tell me what has been going on. When did you noticed?  What time of day does it usually happen?  How long does it last?  What do you all do when it happens?  How far away are the buses before you all hear them?

The reply was, “Really, the only thing that happens is while we’re in class all of a sudden we hear loud music and people yelling from outside.  It has happened almost every day.  In one of my classes. I hear it almost every day at some point between 10:40am and 11:35am.  It doesn’t last that long, and we usually just try to ignore it, but sometimes it can interrupt the class and be very distracting. They can be like 200 feet away and I’ll be able to hear it from the fourth floor, which is when I usually hear the noise. It doesn’t distract me too much, but it can be annoying.”

Here what others had to say:  Hume Fogg students call for party bus regulation (newschannel5.com)

Resolution

Right now, there are really no rules for party busses.  So they can travel where ever, and whenever, they choose.  There are no laws in place for the time of day, or where they can travel, or how loud the music or general noise can be at any given time.  The bill has passed the first step, Metro Council bill looks to regulate party buses (newschannel5.com), which would put some rules and more regulations on our growing transpotainment businesses.

How We Can Help

Our babies already have so much they have to worry about already without having Club Nashville driving by disturbing them now.  What can we do?  Stay on top this story and don’t let our officials get laxed on doing something about it.  There at least needs to be rules of where they can travel during the day and the noise level when passing school zones while they are in session.  It’s just called plain old respect.  Respect for the people around you and respect on how you are affecting them with your actions.

I’m all about having a business and blessing others with your services, but you still have to respect all parties involved to help your business be the best in your field.  This distraction needs to get resolved quickly.  What do state officials think will happen when it comes to those state tests, benchmark tests, quizzes or exams (that they may not do well on) because that’s when a conga line of party busses decided to drive by and stop for a spell?  Find out how you can help and give them the support they need to feel better while in class with no more outside distractions.
